bangkok, Baby!

We made it! Hello all, how are you? We are great. We arrived after midnight this morning and got dropped off on Khao San Road with all the other backpackers from all over the world. I asked two guys with backpacks at the airport if they were headed down here and they said yes and we shared a taxi. The taxi from the airport cost about $12 but with the four of us it was obviously cheaper. Cheap is the word here and making your money streeeetch is the game. The guys were named Derek and Eric and they were form Calgary. Eric was quick to make fun of my Detroit lions shirt and becuase he was sitting in between Will and I, I was unable to push him out of the moving car. We found a place on a back street to put up for the night that cost $450 Bhat, a little more than $11. Now we are moving to another location that is CHEAPER and more quiet. The disco acros sthe street was thumbing until afetr 5 am. Also, we both decided it would be really really nice to not shower in a bathroom that smelled like raw sewage.

Will had his first meal cooked on the street last night with me...some cheap version of oily pad thai and we have both lived to tell the tale. We are off to the cambodian embassy to see about a visa for entry to the country and to inquire about cooking school.

We loosely decided to take the following route....Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and then Vietnam. Think we have it planned out fairly well and will be moving on in another day or two. We also found out that a ticket to Singapore is about $50 US and we may try to put that on the agenda as well to be able to see myt friend and that shiney city.

Ok everybody, we are thinking about you (especially Melissa) and having a great time. Will is even picking his clothes up off the floor and everything and we have just finished run. He is a great work out partner!

Ciao for now

  1. Thanks for the update! We will share with the grandparents who don't have computer access. Hopefully the weather is great-it is snowing again here in case you wanted to know. Dad is looking up all your travels on google earth so when you include specifics about streets, etc it really helps to find where you are staying.
Keep updating when you can-it is a comfort to us back at home.

  2. Great to hear from you guys! I'll send you an e-mail with all of Basil's comings and goings, Cody. It's snowing here and freezing! Colder than a well-digger's ass in the Klondike! We're happy and warm next to our little fire place. We love you both and can't wait to hear more! Love, Nancy

It is sunny and hot and I just found a bikram yoga studio not too far away....Will has no idea of what I have in store for him with the yoga class! Give my boy a squeeze and a spank everyday! two more years and I think he will be travel ready!
